Hi Marco, A few weeks ago I wrote a post about America's relative infatuation with individualism and freedom. Related to this is a distrust of government. Your tongue in cheek crack that our right to bear arms doesn't mean much in a modern military sense is of course correct, but it just shows how deep our distrust goes. At the risk of grossly oversimplifying, we believe more in the individual and in the individual's freedom to pursue what they desire as opposed to the collective.
