[Platt] What in your opinion is the meaning of a random, chaotic universe? Pirsig says its meaning is to become better.
[Case] By having an opinion on the matter I inject meaning into the universe. By striving to stay alive and reproduce I inject the universe with purpose. My purpose is to make things better but I see no evidence that the universe really cares. [Platt] Where do you observe in any model of human behavior the modeler's own consciousness? When you find out how to put yourself in the modeler's head, please let us know. [Case] I have a model of human behavior that includes my own consciousness. Don't you? [Platt] Have you ever awaken in the morning to find the present not there? Even when thinking about the past or asleep, we're in the present. Unless you have figured out a way to time travel. [Case] I always find the present wherever I am but it is always different. I am also able to travel in time. I always think of this as moving forward at a fairly constant rate and always into the present. If I were able to move say, backwards in time I would find myself in a different present but still the present for me. But the present is always changing. I have mental random access to time. I can remember the past and imagine the future. In those cases the past too is always different than it was and my vision of the future is likewise in a constant state of flux. [Platt] What form of energy or matter is found in a thought? If your answer is psychic energy, I'll happily eliminate this paradox from my list. :-) [Case] I tend to think it is electro-chemical energy.
