as usual the list amazes with its ability to endlessly recycle the same very old arguments.
re: private/public health. i am personally less concerned with who pays the butcher, as to keeping myself out of the way of the butcher. i was recently diagnosed with a basal cell carcinoma. this skin cancer is very common where i am from. my sister has had one surgically removed and paid a plastic surgeon a couple of grand to make the wound as inconspicuous as poss. hers was on her collar bone; mine is on my sternum. i saw two doctors about the cancer and they both agreed with each other, the second saying that quite a lump would have to be excised and that the resultant cavity would be unsightly and may not heal well due to the lack of tissue where it is situated. well i was naturally stoked. i decided to consult the ether and found a guy about an hour from here who was selling a herbal skin cancer treatment, originally from the US, called cansema. cansema is a combination of several herb roots (bloodroot, galangal, ginger and a couple more i think) and zinc chloride. it is apparently based on an american indian formula. i talked on the phone with bevan, the aussie guy selling the stuff here, for about an hour or so and decided that this stuff looked too promising not to try. and at $49 for a supply that would last years....not much to lose. anyway that was two weeks ago. all looks good at the mo: nearly healed and no unsightly wounds. bevan says he has a 98% success rate with the salve. by the way the salve is illegal here in australia. it is only available for use on animals (and i thought i was one!). in the US the situation is far worse. The FDA over there has jurisdiction over both veterinary and human medicines and therefore cansema was banned outright. The guy that was selling cansema on the net in the states, who Bevan initially was acting as an agent for, has been sentenced to 3 years jail. Bevan now has a herbalist and naturopath making the salve and other products here in south-east queensland. the recipe is freely available.
