I had high expectations. I had a preconception of what I wanted to see.

to see it. I think you're right there is no such thing as impartial when
it comes to art.
it either strikes a chord in you or it does'nt. Mohicans has that
factor, it suspends
disbelief. Jeremiah Johnson, the Hombre, other fine classics.
heck, Dances with wolves is a fav too....Apocolypto gave me mixed
feelings perhaps it
was spending the greater half of the film feeling bad for these people.
Though I did enjoy the panther eating that guys face.

     Yes, many movies come off hokey, don't you think?
 I guess, at times, what I know about a culture or the history fills in
the blanks or overcomes what I'm watching.  I overlay my perspective
upon much, not just movies.  This goes to the heart of impartiality. 
I just don't think it's possible (impartiality).
