I love to use rhyming songs such as Down By the Bay. I have a few verses on
chart paper that we sing together and then we make up our own verses. I
start by giving them the first part such as "Have you ever seen a duck, driving
a
______" and they fill in the rhyming word. After a while, I have them come
up with their own verses and we illustrate them and make a class book. They
love to read it and it reinforces the rhyming words.
There is also A Hunting We Will Go. It goes "A hunting we will go, A
hunting we will go. We'll catch a ____ and put him in a ____ and then we'll
let
him go. We've come up with great words to put in such as snake/lake,
cat/hat, bear/chair, pig/wig, mouse/house, ape/cape, bug/mug, goat/boat etc.
Good luck and have fun.
