In the early 90's we did just this same thing with literature. We would 're-write' books we loved. Just the other day my 6 year old daughter pulled out "Where the Funny Things Are" that my students had written way-back-when!. We built the story as a class (Shared Writing) typed it up, gave partners the strips with words, the kids illustrated their pages and then we bound it and added it to the class library of books! The books kids wrote were always the favorites.
Kids love it! Songs are great too......they love discovering that Twinkle Twinkle is the same tune as ABC song, and I believe BAA BAA Black Sheep! Have a ball! They will be so inspired to write in order to read! What a great, great motivator to read! ----- Original Message ----- From: "Joy" <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> To: "Mosaic: A Reading Comprehension Strategies Email Group" <[email protected]> Sent: Wednesday, June 27, 2007 1:17 AM Subject: Re: [MOSAIC] reading songs > This is something I wanted to do with my class last year, and my team > teacher nixed the idea!
