Hello,
I think I am fortunate, in that I can create a very flexible schedule
that can be changed as needed. At the end of last year the principal
had each grade level team(4 teams and 265 kids, gr. 5-8) meet with her
for a half day. I was involved with each session. We identified our
neediest struggling readers, tried to figure out how to assign them to
heterogeneous groups for the following year, and how the trimester
schedules were going to look. Then I developed a schedule for each
trimester for myself and the two Title I parapros to work with the
identified students. In the first trimester I team taught with the
sixth grade ELA teacher one period every day. I worked with a group of
5th graders one period every day in lieu of their social studies. I
went into other classrooms to model/team teach with different aspects
of literacy instruction. The second trimester is pretty much the same,
except that I will also be working with one 7th grader every other day
for 45 minutes during his 90 minute ELA class, and four students from
different grades after school for 40 minutes. I administer about 50-60
DRA tests twice a year, too. We have five fifty-five minute periods a
day.

I can't imagine meeting with my kids only a couple of times a week. I
would think that if you could do daily six week stints, you might make
more of an impact on the kids than seeing them only twice a week,
especially when you figure in storm days, assemblies, holidays, etc.
Good luck.
