Another similar idea is to do Oprah in the classroom (I think this is in Allington's book Classrooms that Work??).
Basically you have one student be Oprah who then gets to interview a character(s) from the book (you talk with the class about what kinds of questions Oprah should ask)--it can get pretty crazy when Oprah is interviewing multiple characters from the book at a time.
