I think any school or district that is wise enough to offer (and pay for!) a
number of different options to provide the children with the correct
instruction is on the right track. Our district is foolishly paying for and
offering ONE "program" to all our RtI students. Ridiculous.

Obviously, different things work for different kids...and obviously it takes a
talented teacher AND the correct intervention...whether it be teacher created
or purchased. I am surprised that this would even be an issue, though I
suspect that some of us have been quite beaten down by "program abuse,"
creating a knee jerk reaction.

The original question was a request for successful programs...as for "programs"
as an intevention, I have successfully used Soar to Success for comprehension
difficulties, Corrective Reading for extreme decoding issues after grade 3 and
Benchmark Word Detectives. I have also had success using a combination of
well-researched strategies based on student need.

I agree...there is a place for all types of instruction, but as far as why we
have the least literate society...quite a loaded question and giant can of
worms...which really has nothing to do with this discussion on programs at all.

Respectfully,
