When it comes to this population high interest is a must. The book 'Less is More' is a great resource. Past students have reacted positively to the short stories: The Most Dangerous Game, Louisa,Charles,The Landlady,The Man from the South,Cask of Amontillado, and The Black Cat by Edgar Allan Poe. Besides the book Speak I would include: It Happened to Nancy, Tears of a Tiger (a trilogy),Scorpians, Bad Boy, Hoops, Monster,The Diary of a Young girl:Anne Frank, Cut, Nightjohn, Soldier's Heart,The Rifle and Give a Boy a Gun.
