Are you asking for a piece of literature to respond to? One of the richest short pieces I've used - many times - is Salvadore, late or early from Sandra Cisneros Woman Hollering Creek. It is about a little boy who helps his brothers to school...teacher doesn't even know his name. It is sooo Poetic and beautiful and moving. It is rich enough to require anyone to Use every strategy at hand! And I love it that it connects to school and teaching and children in so many many ways. I NEVER get tired of reading it and responding to it and learning from others' responses.
