We've also created recording stations for students to record their own reading
and hear it back, making notes on what they'd like to change, and trying again.
And we've started a buddy reader project, where older AIS students practice
reading a picture
book of their own choosing, and then read the book aloud to a handful of
kindergartners/first graders. The older kids love becoming the teacher, the
younger ones like "big kids" reading to them. Again, its an authentic reason
to practice fluency, and
it builds their confidence and makes them feel good to have their former K and
1 teachers see them now as readers. Very empowering.
