Spent the day birding with Laura Erickson. The winds were very strong and a lot of snow was drifting in the strong winds.
Sax Zim Bog Highlights: - 2 Hoary Redpolls (male) Classic beautiful male Hoary Redpolls coming to the Admiral Road feeder. - 1 Boreal Chickadee = Admiral Rd feeder - 2 Gray Jays = Admiral Rd feeder - 10 White-winged Crossbills feeding on the road on the Little Whiteface Rd 1/4 mile north of CR 133. Also a large flock in the town of Meadowlands near the corner of Country Market Store and the Catholic Church. * No owls were found on this windy day in Sax Zim Bog * I saw a glimpse of a Boreal Owl as it flew away. I heard some scolding Black-capped Chickadees off the Greenwood Rd and walked into a corrider area and before I could raise my binoculars to scan for the owl I saw the back side of a small owl flying away from me. I could not pursue the owl any more because it flew into private property. Laura took some wonderful photos of the Hoary Redpoll and Boreal Chickadee and they should be on her blog either tonight or tomorrow.
