On Sunday I went birding with Erika Sitz around Dakota County. Notable birds
included Least Flycatchers, Eastern Kingbirds, Sedge Wren, Yellow Warblers, RB
Grosbeak, Bobolink, and Brewer's Blackbird. We had good looks at the Brewer's,
Bobolink, and Sedge Wren.

Sunday night I went down to Frontenac area to do my Frog and Toad survey. We
had singing toads at most locations. They were deafening at Lake Frontenac,
drowning out other frogs. We had tree frogs at many locations and spring
peepers were still calling at their main location on the western edge of Lake
Frontenac.
We also had Marsh Wrens calling and found one Whip-poor-will. The survey
route's most reliable location for Whip-poor-wills was quiet. I hope this is
evidence that the date is still early for them.

Back at Quiggley Lake the copes gray treefrogs have been extreamly loud. i
have not heard any gray treefrogs, which, while more common on the survey
route, are a very minor component of the local population. I have noticed some
differences in the calling dates of the two treefrogs, and am hoping that they
will sound off later in the month. The grape jelly is being consumed. I have
only noticed Orioles on the jelly.
