RFC 2818 (which is informational, NOT a proposed standard, but which reads like a proposed standard) in section 3.1 only allows * (not |) and that is all IE supports.
That's extremely interesting.
Given the existence of subjectAltName, I assume there's no value in IE ever supporting |?
I happened to see a | cert the other day (I thought it was on mecha.mozilla.org; if it was, it's not now); are people saying that they are, in fact, very rare?
