"3rd-party" stand-alone xul-based application would you suggest Sunbird's model or one of the other's?
I am using Sunbird's method. It is simple and quick, with minimal hacking needed.
I am not familiar with how fire or thunder does it. Since I could decipher sunbird with minimal effort, it seemed the better choice.
