Unkown content behavior

If I type a URL in mozilla it displays it by default in the 
browser-window. ( I tried to save an XPI).
But I will save this content, rather than it display - for instance 
binary files.

Is this an bug or a feature? ;-)

Any suggestions/workaround/whatevers?
