I thank you all for the replies, and reserve bugger thanks for those who
mentioned the Profile Manager.  That was the missing clue- I dug up the
Application Data from the Windows subdir and nuked the Mozilla files.

Problem solved.  Apparently some theme or another really hung up Mozilla- the
Profile Manager load did not solve the problem- and deleting the files
manually did the trick.
