I don't give a rip about how many total messages there are in a
newsgroup, and still can't figure out why anybody else would, either.
The unread count is what matters, at least to me. And I personally
prefer the unread count right next to the ng name instead of way off to
the right. It's just easier for me to read and is better from *my*
usability standpoint. Thus, I turned off all the count columns and see
the ngs displayed the "old" way.
Ain't it nice to be given the choice? Either way, the performance
improvements are without a doubt ab fab! :-)
