According to the OS vendor's[1] preferred method of doing things, that's where applications are SUPPOSED to do. In a properly-configured multi-user WinNT[2] environment, you'll see IE and Outlook doing pretty much the same thing. I _think_ things follow a broadly similar pattern over on the *ix OS's, and probably on others, too. [1] yes, they're the "big, bad" microsoft, but that's irrelevent to this discussion. [2] and, I assume, win2K/XP Re: the "[random].slt" bit, that's security, to prevent a malicious 3rd party being able to figure out where your profile lives and do stuff with it. -- gav
