Wouldn't that make it needlessly complicated for the vast majority of 
users? I can't see the benefit of this personally, click on send later 
to delay the sending of a message if you don't want it sent to a certain 
time, and if you're connected to the network why wouldn't you want to be 
able to download mail or new news messages?


When we have offline news and imap support shouldn't we read the local 
copy of a message even when we're online to save network traffic? 
Therefore even given the situation where not all the servers may be 
available in a given situation you should still be able to browse your 
offline messages and send mail later.   It would just fail if you asked it to 
download new messages.

If this was to be implemented it would have to be implemented in a way 
that new users would not get confused by its existence and the default 
should be total online/total offline. But I can't see much use in this 
feature at all personally.
