I will try. Welcome aboard ;)

This works for me on a more recent nightly (i use the nightlies, because
they are more current). Did you select from the menu: View -> Messages
-> Unread? Maybe you can download a new nightly:
http://ftp.mozilla.org/pub/mozilla/nightly/latest/
TIP: I install the Milestones (0.9.2) into *\Mozilla Milestone* and the
nightly builds into the directory *\Mozilla Nightly Build*. That way, I
always hace a (supposedly) more stable Milestone to fall back on, AND a
more current nightly build.

Works for me. Try either the menu: View - Messages - Threaded; or simply
click on the small collumn header to the left of the "Subject" collumn
header.

Mozilla is completely "skinnable" by using so-called "Themes". There
already exists an "Aqua" Theme. Just open the browser and select View -
Apply Theme - Get New Themes. Be careful to read the themes
descriptions, some only work on milestones, other on nightlies (Mozilla
is still in development). Usually, you can just click on the *Install*
link to install the theme (needs a restart of Mozilla).
