New Mail Notification

changed the prefs file so that I could play whatever sound I wanted when 
new mail came in.  I have tried this in 6.2 and it is not working.  Do 
you know what I can do to enable a sound to notify when new mail 
arrives.  Currently nothing happens when new mail is received.
