That's what it actually does (copy it). When you delete a mail it
doesn't get removed from the Inbox (or wherever) but gets flagged as
deleted (the X-Mozilla-Status line in the header). When you run compact
Folders, *then* it really gets deleted.
Try Compact Folders and if it's still there, delete Inbox.msf again. the
fact that it now appears in Trash as well shows that the steps you took
have done /something/
