I can't find the earlier threads, but do you need to use your e-mail
address rather than just your username to connect to the SMTP server,
i.e. in Edit->Mail & Newsgroup Account Settings->Outgoing Server do you
need to put "[EMAIL PROTECTED]" instead of just "user" in the User Name box?

If so then you need to add this line to your user.js:

user_pref("mail.allow_at_sign_in_user_name", true);

One of the main causes of the fall of the Roman Empire was that,
lacking a zero, they had no way to indicate the successful termination
of their C programs.
