On 30 Sep 2002, it is alleged that dR Pepper sauntered in to
netscape.public.mozilla.mail-news and loudly proclaimed:

And what's your problem? Set your various SMTP servers under Edit | Mail &
Newsgroups Account Settings | Outgoing Server (SMTP), then set 'em under
Edit | Mail & Newsgroups Account Settings | [account] -- Advanced.

*shrugs*

That has to be one of the /stupidest/ designs I've ever come across, and
using filters seems to be making a virtue of necessity.

I think the current set-up is a pretty well-established design decision --
altho', as has been pointed out elsewhere, it is one that favours IMAP over
POP.

BTW, user questions are best asked in the fora listed in my sig. Yes, I
know you use Agent; no, that's not an excuse: stunnel (and the needed SSL
libraries) should do the trick nicely. Seems to for a lot of people,
anyway. . . .
