Thanks to help from Henry and Mikus, I've figured out the problem. If
you installed the Mozilla archive - preserving the file structure -
without installing the contents of the XWarpzlibs.zip and gcc2952m.zip
archives (if you need them) in your \bin directory and tried starting
Mozilla only to have it close right down, then a bad
\bin\component.reg file was created in your \bin directory which will
keep Mozilla from running even after the missing files have been
added. Therefore, what you need to do is erase the \bin\component.reg
file and start up Mozilla again. Assuming that you have installed the
missing files and that there are no older versions in your path
somewhere, Mozilla will probably start right up for you.

If I were installing from scratch, here is the approach I would use.

1. Install the Mozilla archive in a new directory preserving the
directory structure.
2. Install the contents of the gcc2952m.zip archive in the \bin
directory.
3. Install the contents of the XWarpzlibs.zip archive in the \bin
directory.
4. Start up Mozilla.

This way the bad \bin\component.reg file is never created.

The two archives I was missing are available from:

and
