Does actually it create the profile (by default in
bin/Mozilla/Profiles)?
Does it create bin/component.reg which should be about 300K? If it's
there, try deleting it.
If you have a config.sys from one of your previous systems around, you
might compare it with your current one.
Do you have loopback enabled?
Can you run xpcshell?
If you have the non-lxlited version, try running the ldd or chkdll32
utility in full recursive mode on mozilla DLLs. Once a similar strange
silent failure was traced to a missing os2/dll/ffst.dll...
