Right now, Netscape 4.61, IBM Web Browser, and Mozilla are present on my system (OS/2 v4.51), and the latter two exhibit the same bookmarks file. Web Browser and Mozilla were installed in that order. That explains why the bookmarks file is physically present in the \OS2WEB directory (i.e. Web Browser) but not in the Mozilla directory. Evidently, Mozilla knew enough to look for the file in the directory of the earlier version, and knows enough to refer to it there, so that the two stay synchronized. (That is what drew my attention to the question: I added a bookmark in Mozilla, and then noticed it was present in the WB bookmarks file as well.) I won't keep both on the system forever, and the chances are good that it is IBM Web Browser that will be deleted, so that I would have to copy over the file (and the profile) to the Mozilla directory structure. I have not found any instruction about exactly *where* to put it. Although the WB directory has a subdirectory for the only profile I have defined, and the bookmarks are in it, the Mozilla directory does not. How to handle the bookmarks and profile on the fateful day that I remove WB from the system, so I don't have to start from scratch to build a new one? The Mozilla directory structure includes the following: 2001/04/21 20:49:18 5829 D:\Mozilla\bin\defaults\profile\US\bookmarks.html 2001/04/21 20:49:18 5829 D:\Mozilla\bin\defaults\profile\bookmarks.html Note that these files have dates in April, whereas I installed both Web Browser and Mozilla only in October; they are two copies of pointers to Mozilla-specific pages. I didn't put them there, Mozilla did, although why two copies, and what good they do if the user has not been apprised of them are two mysteries. Mozilla doesn't have a randomly-named directory, but Web Browser does. I hesitate to use the same gibberish for a filename in the Mozilla directory structure. This thing scares me. -- Stan Goodman Qiryat Tiv'on Israel
