hmmm,
on my build, with VC5, it drops almost immediatly, maybe one second into the
sample. Is there a different calculation used for VC on a Win PC?

Which part of the sample do you hear the problem, and is it
subtle or real obvious?
I just tested this sample - with lame3.58, I only see
the bitrate drop to below 112kbs in frames 220->245,
(the last .6s) and in that section I cant hear any music.
