You could run the Windows version under Linux with WINE or similar, I guess.
I'm not sure what sort of performance hit that imposes, though...
On a related note - does anyone know of a patch to make mp3enc 3.1 work on
NT 4.0 SP3+? It dies almost immediately at bitrates above 128kbps on such
systems (might be related to stereo mode). I've seen other patches - e.g. to
adjust stereo modes and fix the -sti option - but nothing for this bug...
