Actually, LAME 3.70 still contains ISO code.  

That remark is for the not-yet-released LAME 3.80 beta.  
But I think you are right, and we can drop the 
patch distribution model for all future distributions :-)

Of couse this doesn't change the fact that to distribute 
programs based on compiled versions of LAME may require a patent
license in some contries.
