I went to a hardware modem because with a Winmodem (software based)
nearly anything that was computationally intense and of signifigant
duration dropped my line connections.  That the behavior is evidenced
with a new release of Lame is not terribly surprising because of the
changes in CPU loading and its timing that occur.
