EAC & LAME is definitely a great combo!
I too use the standard preset, but with a couple of modifications (slower
encoding, but higher quality) you might want to use yourself:
lame --alt-preset standard -q 0 -k -b 32
"-q 0" means use best psycho-acoustic processing AFAIR (please correct me if
I'm wrong)
"-k" means don't use low-pass filter, i.e. preserve all frequencies (will
produce slightly larger MP3s)
"-b 32" means you allow LAME to go as low as 32 kbps where applicable. I've
seen warnings about possible sound degradation, but after 3200 MP3s I have
not heard one example of this (possibly because of the -q 0 switch, but
that's just guessing ;).
