I must confess that the the comments on ISAG infuriated me. Do you
mean to tell me that the police were perfectly in the right to shoot myself
and my friends with pepper spray (frequently while standing on sidewalks
which happened to myself and a legal observer friend of mine) shoot them
with rubber bullets, and release tear gas on us because there was an effort
to make a detour on an unexplained 'official protest route'? I also had
friends clubbed by police officers because they tried to run into a public
park. Nothing that was done that day warranted that sort of behavior.
Nothing.
On another note, I think that Matthea's comments are extremely cogent
and something that need to be given thought. Certainly I would accept the
notion that citizens are involved to an extent within racist policing, and
this needs to be approached. If I gave the impression otherwise, I
apologise. I just think that demanding new police policies is a good place
to start. This doesn't let us off the hook.
