All,

I would propose one of the key votes, and a way to gague where a
councilmember stood on the issue of the Airport was on March 8, 1996 when
ignoring realistic projections of air travel growth, the Council voted to
support expansion of the airport at its current site; the result --
continuing high monopoly-priced airfares, increasing excessive delays, and
increasing air & noise pollution.

Lisa McDonald voted for expansion.

To quote from the background work available at the A City For Neighbors
website:

"In 1996 when the MAC recommended that the current airport be expanded, it
projected that there would be 520,000 operations in the year 2020. The
airport surpassed 520,000 operations in 2000; the MAC was 20 years off in a
25 year projection. This was no surprise to Council Members who closely
followed airport matters. In 1996 the MAC was projecting an average annual
growth rate of 0.8% per year for 25 years. The historical annual growth rate
had been over three times larger (approximately 3%) and the federal
government was projecting an even greater growth rate. "
