One other point concerning noise relief that is indicated by Jan DelCalzo,
but may not be obvious to casual observers is that the alignment of the
North-South runway actually prevents the southern parallel runway and the
north-south runway from being used simultaneously to the north. This
results in limiting the south parallel to roughly a 50-50 mix of inbound and
outbound, based on average weather conditions, (depending upon wind) and
eliminates the projected growth accommodated by north-south from being used
over Minneapolis at all. That is projected to be as much as 20% less flight
activity over Minneapolis, compared to other communities surrounding the
airport, over the period of ten year projected growth.
