Regarding the question on Renee Lavoi:
She is no longer with the Republican party because she felt that she didn't
have a place at the table and her views weren't of the party's views. Funny
how some say moderates leave the Republican party because they don't have a
voice, when it's extremists like Ms. Lavoi who are leaving. I had been
working with a number of those school board candidates that year (including
Shirley), and I was shocked as were the other candidates to see the Star
Tribune article that was referred to. I think the phase applies to Ms.
Lavoi "she acted alone" on that one.
I've been active in local politics for over five years, and have worked very
hard to demonstrate what I know of the Republican party values in
Minneapolis on issues such as education, property tax reform, and improving
the quality of life for all residents of the city. I've even gone as far as
to organize such things as a city wide forum on education featuring DFL
speakers. Minneapolis "elephants" have gotten a really bad rap over the
years for being out of touch with the average resident of Minneapolis. When
it's been Republicans that for years have been calling for lower property
taxes and property tax reform, better education for all children, and
keeping the streets safe and clean. Well, I found it very interesting this
past election cycle in my neck of the woods (Northeast) that our DFL friends
had been campaigning on the same issues. My question was where have you
been? I'm still waiting for the results keeping those promises.
It's time for some new leadership. Leadership that will be mindful of the
entire constituency, and driven by the idea of delivering on the promises of
a more responsive government. I know that Shirley Carlson can deliver.
