They've begun to get a clue on that -- because they know that Minneapolis
was key in Gore's victory in the state.
What is rather odd about all this is that Ron Eibensteiner, the current
state chair (who seems to "always vote Bill Cooper's call and never thinks
of thinking for himself at all") resides in Minneapolis. One would think
that Eibensteiner would have a sense of how to market the Republican Party
better in Minneapolis since he resides in the City.
In Peter Bell's race for County Commissioner, the State Party produced
"independent expenditure" literature was so badly thought out, that it gave
Gail Dorfman's campaign a good opportunity to attack Peter Bell. He had
not approved the literature -- but because he was working with the
Republican Party -- he had to take the heat for their mistakes.
Meanwhile the state party put major resources into unseating Gary Laidig
and replacing him with extremist Michelle Bachmann. When I was at the 61st
district GOP convention, several Dems walked by -- and some mentioned they
would consider joining the GOP -- but actions such as dumping moderate
Laidig for flake Michelle Bachman made them nervous. And ofcourse the
Renee LaVoi fiasco continues to haunt the Minneapolis party. When LaVoi
was running, Eibensteiner had put out some fundraising letters on her
behalf -- in those letters, he seemed fully aware of her more extreme
positions.
It would be nice to have a Republican Party State Chair who:
1. Has a clue
2. Can raise money
The current Chair is good at 2 -- but seems rather vacuous when I've seen
him give speeches.
