I have said all along that I will hold regular
meetings in the ward. Karen Clark, Linda Berglin, and
Linda Wjecman, and now Neva Walker have regular
Saturday morning meetings before the legislative
session both to inform and gather input. I believe
the council member should be a regular participant in
those meetings as well as having some meetings
scheduled for just city issues. I would like to see
the County and the Met Council participate as well.

I have advocated that I will take the recommendations
of the neighborhood association very seriously in any
decision where I must cast a vote. The City
established a Citizen Participation Model and the city
should honor it as long as the neighborhood
association who is contracted for citizen
participation activities conducts it's business in
accordance with the policies directed by the city.

Under this model, citizens have an opportunity every
month to have their voices heard. I have always been a
strong advocate of this citizen participation
structure and will continue to be elected or not. That
is not to say that it is perfect and should never be
changed. With any process there should and will be
refinements from time to time.

But not all the issues decided by the City Council
come before the citizen participation groups so I will
find other ways to inform the ward either through
regular meetings or occasional newsletters the council
budget permits.
