Back in the day, back when I was young and naive and thought Mpls was so
cool....I thought it was cool because of Del Mar, when he was on, his rhymes
could not be touched, when he was off, he was humbled and human and just kept
going. And my subconscious learned something even though it went over my head.
Earlier this year I thought I saw him, was it him or just his spirit? I'm so
glad I threw him money well spent and always took the time just to hang out,
even though I had reached the point when hanging out was too much of a luxury.
Speaking ill will of the dead is not a bright thing, I can imagine Del Mar
visiting all the people who thought his music was racket and giving them some
cool runnings in the middle of the night.
Tim, I'm sorry you were stuck in the city where your environment cannot be
completely controlled, I thought that was half the fun. It's to bad you were not
stuck in the burbs where you can work your life away in peace and quiet and wake
up and wonder where did all the years go. Del mar was speaking keenly to you,
just once play hooky and chill on the drum for an hour and it won't be noise, it
will be remembrances of a time more carefree.
I have this image of Del Mar serenading the Mary Tyler Moore statue, that's how
I will remember him. This real man looking past the surface of hard steel and
playing his drum for a beautiful woman.
My mother died a couple of months ago, Myrhh, my cat companion died just before
that. Sometimes you don't realize the void that is left is so great and seems to
expand every day.
