Malik Del Mar, downtown's drummer, is dead. The Strib obit, which says Malik
was "considered by some to be one of Minneapolis' first street musicians" is

If we have any heart, we'll find a way to fund a Del Mar statue pronto. I'll
kick in. This guy meant a lot more to arts on Nicollet Mall than TV
characters. Then again, the guy was about living, not statues. When I left
my downtown office digs to begin working out of my home, missing Del Mar's
beats was one of the worst things about leaving. Now we'll miss them
forever. What a bummer.
