Unfortunately, there just aren't enough of them in the area to really
help your squirrel infestation. What we mostly have in the area are
kestrels. My old house in Phillips actually had some nesting in the
side of the house. I've spotted one recently along the Greenway. These
pee-wee falcons just aren't big enough to take squirrels, which are
risky prey even for a far larger redtail, because of their bites. I
have known a few redtails who've made a habit of squirrel hunting, but I
don't think we'll see one in the area!

The peregrines are still hanging around downtown, where they have the
tall buildings to play in. But even if they were moving outward,
they're mainly airborne bird hunters. Pigeon go poof!

The problem for larger birds of prey in the city is that they need a
good hunting area. When you see hawks around the airport or on highway
36, or such, it's always around an area with big fields of tall grass
(or cropped grass, like around the cemetary). They can hang out on top
of a pole and watch stuff run around until they decide to do lunch. We
don't have enough prey in densely populated areas and, more importantly,
it's full of all sorts of buildings & other impediments. Also, a dense
area is full of stuff that will kill a hawk quickly - trucks to be hit
by, wires to slam into, etc.

So, unless you embark on a massive campaign of housing and business
removal in the inner city, you're out of luck on this squirrel strategy!
I might suggest cloning my big 'ol ex-stray cat, though - he's pretty
much decimated our squirrel population single-handedly.
