At the risk of speaking for Barb Lickness, I don't
think her comments were a result of animosity toward
Target.  Even if they were, I have another
interpretation of the scenario:

Many people who live around Lake and Nicollet are
"car-free" (as a list-member once put it.)  As such,
they are limited in their ability to shop around for
the best prices.  It's been my experience that city
businesses already capitalize on this big-time. 
(Personally, I often do my shopping in the suburbs,
because the larger stores, better selection, and
cheaper products make it well worth my time.)

I am concerned about a situation wherein Target would
become the only discount retailer within reach of
those living in south Minneapolis.  There needs to be
a little competition in order to maintain price,
selection, and quality of service.
