No amount of money will ever fix the problems that some of these kids face. Broken and violent home life, parents that don't re-enforce the value of the learning process, and a school system that always plays to the lowest denominator. Some how, some way, we need to take these troubled kids (regardless of so called classifications) and figure out how to get them to forget their troubles and focus on education for six to eight hours a day, and to inspire them to a better future. We need to paint for them a picture of what can be, and leave what currently is.
We need to change the way special education and ELL are approached. We must focus on the basics of reading, math, civics, history (real history not someone's view of it), and the arts. We need to expand the programs that inspire kids (ie gifted/talented). We need to focus on where our future is with subjects such as math, technology, and science. Education is one of the top livability issues in any city or town. Without upgrades our education system this community will fail (with a big F). It drives the economy and jobs, crime stats, and general health and well being of a community. So, I challenge the city council, school board, state house and senate, and all the way up to the desk in the oval office.... WHAT ARE YOU GOING TO DO ABOUT IT?!
