Annie:

Cannot tell you how happy to see your response on this thread.  Being Longfellow residents, users of the Minnehaha dog park, and my wife commutes that direction for work, we use that parkway (frontage road??) through Minnehaha park often.  My wife has told me of more than 10 times she has been tailgated, honked at and even passed on that piece of road.  Talk about unsafe!!  Even saw a car crash into one of the old oaks this winter.

Really, the new Hiawatha Ave. could use some serious enforcement too.  We cut through the park to enjoy the view, but also 'cause when we are doing 35 - 40 on Hiawatha, we are being passed by drivers doing 60!

That being said, why not simply close the parkway between the entrance to the Vets home and the dog park parking lot.  Have more greenspace, picnic grounds, etc... in that space. Safer, less enforcement, etc...  Could result in a net gain in parkland acres for the city after losing some from Hiawatha!

Happy Spring and a friendly reminder...
Thank you Wendy for these words.  As you point out this is one of the
biggest problems with the parkways and there are no real solutions as speed
bumps don't really work, too many stop signs, police enforcement (is this
the best use of their time), etc., etc., etc.
And all of you who are driving fast on the frontage road through Minnehaha
Park so you don't have to drive 35mph on Hiawatha - please stop it - we are
going to change that one.

Please everyone - slow down and enjoy the "roses" (the parks)
