Clearly these topics *are* important, it is just that this is not the
place to discuss them unless they can be tied to a specific Minneapolis
context.

Andy-----which of these specific topics could Minneapolis residents address?

Is Air Quality an Issue for Minneapolis?:
***If you add up all the coal burning source emission in Chicago, they would be less than the total emissions from just the one Xcel Energy Riverside coal-burning plant, which is closest to the Camden community, and there are three other coal-burning metro plants in the region. ***
***If all ten major coal-burning plants in our region were brought to current air quality standards it would be the same as taking 2 million cars off the highways, which is the equivalent of removing 2/3rds of the cars in MN. ***

***Converting from coal to gas, has been proven in other cities like Chicago, it would increase production and would reduce emissions to almost 0, it would also be a cost-savings to both residents and the company but the best alternative Xcel will commit to is "voluntary reductions options" that may or may not be implimented in our lifetime.
***When the state of MN already has to purchase 10% more energy than it produced(MN Dept of Commerce Report) Is the City of Minneapolis content with purchasing power outside the state when the one coal burning facility in Minneapolis is underserving and underutilizing all of it's resources, and annually emitting a lifetimes worth of mutagens and neurotoxins that millions cars or barbeques could never emit?

***Is the City of Minneapolis, the State of MN, content to be in the top 10% of the dirtiest counties in the nation?(epascorecard.com) and complacently rely on the 5% alternative energy while watching birds in a nest and listening to "It's the best we can do?"

***It's not hard to believe people can't see the seriousness of the issue staring Minneapolis in the face, nobody at the top is telling them otherwise, not Minneapolis Environmental Mgmt, MPCA, MN Dept of health? Why is that?  Underfunded and Understaffed or just undermotivated to protect our health? I hope a few Minneapolis residents will come May 11th to the Mississippi Corridor Neighborhood Coalition/SECIA sponsored Environmental Forum at Logan Park to find out how air quality is connecting neighborhoods across the Twin Cities and truly is everyones problem.
