List,

Just to clear up a misidentification of Colleen Moriarty and her
background. First, I am not a close friend, associate of Colleen's and
I was not involved in her School Board race in any way. But her
endorsement by the DFL is extremely well deserved.

Colleen Moriarty served, not as communications director, but as SSB's
chief of staff during the Mayor's final term. Prior to that, Colleen
served with distinction as the Director of the Youth Coordinating Board
(www.ycb.org). The Youth Coordinating Board is an "intergovernmental
organization dedicated to the healthy, comprehensive development of all
Minneapolis children and youth 0-20 through collaborative action." Their
programs, partnerships and initiatives include: the What's up line,
Minneapolis Mayor's Youth Council, Minneapolis Way to Grow, Minneapolis
FATHER Project, Citywide Youth Development Initiative, Minneapolis Youth
Vote 2001, Minneapolis Redesign, Neighborhood Early Learning Centers,
and our local America's Promise for Youth.

Most importantly it is where the School Board, City Council, Park Board,
Hennepin County, and Mayor's Office all come together to coordinate
policy on behalf of youth in Minneapolis.

At a time where budgets are being cut back and pressures on schools
increase the importance of deeply connecting our schools with the rest
of the community's infrastructure and resources is vital. Colleen
understands that at a very deep level. Colleen's lifetime of experience
in youth development and youth empowerment make her a very well
qualified to immediately impact the School Board and the future of
Minneapolis schools.

As a side note -- it was nice to see so many young people at the
convention working for Colleen -- especially since they weren't all
related to her! Though her son is a very impressive "product" of the
Minneapolis public schools.

As an additional side note: Colleen's husband is David Doth, the
commissioner of the Minneapolis Health and Family Support Department,
and served as Minnesota's Commissioner of Health and Human Services for
Arne Carlson.

Spent too much of a gorgeous day at a convention on Saturday.

Yes, I think it is the same Joe Erickson -- someone said in their speech

about him that "Joe has spent his career teaching teachers at Augsburg".
And you probably recognize Colleen Moriarty from her position
as
Communications Director during Sharon Sayles Belton's last term as Mayor
--
Colleen was often the one sending out news releases, some of which were
posted on this list. I hear she's also been active in her neighborhood,

but not being from that part of Ward 11 I don't know much about that.
