A four year committment for >volunteers (while staff is paid) is excessive and >unrealistic. > It was the Healy block club, of which you, David, are a voluable member, that originally demanded an input model and a re-visiting of the I 35 W issue at Lake St. CM Herron, working with you, went to Honeywell and Abbott who agreed to weigh in on the issue and re-visit and overcome our legislators antipathy to taking on the issue once more.
The Healy Block also demanded an in-put process which allowed everyone and their cousin the give testimony. They adjusted their schedule to address all the input even after the deadline for further input had passed. You sat on the I35 Mitigation Committee or task force, as did Robert Lilligren, Vickie Brock, the merchants (guy from Pearl Vision was one of them). The neighborhood folks were continually up-dated, there were two big meetings, one at Hosmer, one at Old Arizona Studios, asking for people's comments on the work to date. That committee is still meeting and expects to come back to the neighborhoods sometime this fall. After their work is done, they will make their recommendation to all and sundry. At this point, everyone living around 35W from Hwy. 62 to downtown still has the right of commentary. The staff person for the Mitigation committee, Tom Johnson, has done an admirable job, kept everyone informed, send out detailed information packets to anyone who asked for one, made them available in libraries and other places where people gather, interviewed people in person. As the organizer for this effort he has done a much better job than others have under the same circumstances. He has listened to people and created, with the committee, a process which people said they wanted. You were there. > > >3) ENUFF Members seek to mitigate existing livability >problems created by the freeway, and to prevent the >creation of additional, future problems where >possible. > That is the work of the I35W Mitigation committee. That'w what they have worked for three and a half years to accomplish. There is still time for input. My judgment is that ENUFF is no more than a rump caucus whose sole purpose for existence is to hold up the process of getting something done about 35W at Lake Street. We've been asking to have something done for some 30 years. It may even happen after this process. Since it was you and your block who started the process, I sure would like an explanation, David, for how you can justify ENUFF at this time.
