I see that abuse is allowed on the List. Mr. Devany is absolutely correct,
abuse such as his should not be allowed. I do not believe I mentioned any
name when I asked who besides me thinks riding in the wrong lane was a
boneheaded thing that a jerk might do. If Mr. Devany takes this as a
personal insult because he was one of the boneheads so be it. At one time
I might have expected his people to talk to mine, but I believe this is no
longer allowed so I guess I only have to worry about his insults. I wonder
what Mr. Delaney thinks of as a four letter word. I also wonder which of us
engaged in abusive rhetoric.

And Mr. Devany I do know the philosophy of protest. Part of it is being
willing to suffer the consequences of your protest. As such you should be
willing to have your bicycle confiscated and go to jail for your actions.
All
without whining about police doing their duty. Being kids and young adults
is not an excuse for anything other than lacking experience. I believe this
excuse was used for street drag racing and other "bonehead" practices, that
I
once participated in. I even remember it being used after a bus station
lunch counter sit-in in Blytheville Arkansas as a young teenager. It
worked,
I only got slapped around by the police officer instead of going to jail as
older people did.

RT Rybak has given bicycles more legitimacy than other Mayors, but even
he can not grant what Mr. Devany so naively asks for. I can imagine
everyone stopping their car, when ever they wish, to look at the view.
You know come to think of it Mr. Devany probably would not mind a
bicycle rider stopping anytime he wants and leaving his bike laying across
the bike path to view the ducks at Calhoun. There are laws and ordinances
that RT is NOT empowered to change, he is only SWORN to uphold
them.

While I thank Mr. Delaney for his confidence in my ability and power to
make RT do something, I, (and people like me), must humbly admit that I
can not. (though if Mr.Devany can tell me how I would sure appreciate it)
People like me also can not force RT to ignore the law. I suggest Devany
talk to RT himself.

Of course RT will probably refuse as it is his sworn duty to uphold and
enforce the LAW. But by all means try, if Mr. Devany is successful many
who like driving in South American and European countries will start to
have fun. Imagine not having to worry about pedestrians and bicycles
while you race around Minneapolis and get to stop any time you want.

So Mr. Devany be nice and take it up in person, not on the List, if you wish
to be personal. While I do not mind "personally", others might.

Jim Graham,
Ventura Village
